Bike To Work Week

May is National Bike Month which includes two popular events: Bike To Work Week (BTWW) from May 14-18, 2018 and Bike to School Day on May 9, 2018.

To celebrate, the following local events are scheduled:

Bike Rodeos to Support Bike to School Day

  • Bee Branch Bike Rodeo
    • Tuesday, 8 May 2018 from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm
    • Location: Audubon Elementary playground
    • Highlights: Bicycle safety checks and an obstacle course to learn how to ride confidently and safely.
  • Bryant Bike & Walk to School Day 
    • Thursday, 10 May 2018 from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm
    • Location: Bryant Elementary playground
    • Highlights: Bicycle safety checks and an obstacle course to learn how to ride confidently and safely.

Bike To Work Week Events

  • “Free” Checkouts from the Dubuque Bike Coop 
    • BTWW, 14-18 May 2018
    • Location: Dubuque Bike Coop (2206 Central Ave, Dubuque)
    • How it works:  the process will be our normal checkout (see FAQ).  Patrons may checkout a bike from the Coop starting the week before BTWW and if the bike is returned during BTWW or the week after, the full deposit will be returned minus any damages beyond normal wear-and-tear.  Bikes are subject to availability and are first-come, first-served.  There will be no holds.  The Coop plans to have expanded hours:
      • Monday, 7 May 2018 – 6pm to 8pm. [First day to checkout a “free” bike]
      • Tuesday, 8 May 2018 – 6pm to 8pm.
      • Thursday, 10 May 2018 – 6pm to 8pm.
      • Friday, 11 May 2018 – 6pm to 8pm.
      • Monday, 14 May 2018 – 6pm to 8pm.
      • Tuesday, 15 May 2018 – 6pm to 8pm.
      • Thursday, 17 May 2018 – 6pm to 8pm.
      • Tuesday, 22 May 2018 – 6pm to 8pm.
      • Thursday, 24 May 2018 – 6pm to 8pm. [Last day to return a “free” checkout bike]
  • BTWW Informal Ride

    • Location: TBA
    • Local TAWG (Thursday After Work Group) riders will be hosting a ride around Dubuque. Curious how to find a route from home to work?  These folks will get you in the know!
  • Public Bike Maintenance Clinic – hosted by TMBR and the Dubuque Bike Coop
    • Friday, 18 May 2018, 6pm to 7pm
    • Location: Town Clock Plaza or Washington Park – check back!
    • How it works:  The good people from TMBR and the Coop will be on hand to give hands-on demonstrations on how to fix a flat tire and how to keep your bike maintained at home.
  • DubuqueFest Bike Valet – hosted by the Dubuque Bike Coop 
    • Friday, 18 May 2018, 7pm to 10pm
    • Location: Town Clock Plaza
    • How it works:  Ready to partake in the festivities and don’t want to worry about driving/parking your car?  Ride your bike!  You can drop your bike off at the bike valet where it will be watched by volunteers from the Dubuque Bike Coop.  Service is available from 7pm to 10pm.
